Program notes:
RoundUp! is designed to suit a range of abilities in percussion - from lower primary to upper high school and beyond. Groove-based and funky, this piece offers opportunities for choose-your-own-adventure solos, where performers are invited to sculpt the existing written content and encouraged to add their own creative take. Bookended by spirited collective groove sections, the contrasting middle section features a waltz-like change of pace, metric modulations, and soloistic spotlights trading between multiple instruments in the ensemble. The piece is guided by an overall philosophy of collectivity - the joy of cooperative and cumulative music making.
Arrangements for smaller ensemble are available on request
