New Intimacy by Jeanette Little | World Premiere
November 2019
Scored for solo vibraphone, three aluminum tubes, and two ceramic pots, the auxiliary instruments are all pitched at quarter tones and fall into the cracks between the fixed ‘in tune’ pitches of the vibraphone (according to modern Western art music’s concept of equal temperament). The extended, somewhat eerie, resonance of the aluminium tubes and the dull, ‘dud’-sounding lack of resonance from the pots combines to simulate a ‘broken’ vibraphone quality.
